Heat isn’t made.
It’s moved.
A heat pump doesn’t burn anything to make warmth — it moves heat that already exists, and a four-way reversing valve decides which way it goes. In January it carries heat into the house. In August it carries it back out. Same machine, same refrigerant, one part turned around.
That’s the equipment we’ve installed and serviced across King and Pierce Counties since 2003, alongside the furnaces and filtration that go with it.

Indoor air can be five times worse than what's outside. American Standard filtration systems can remove up to 99.98% of allergens in the air.
Now: HEAT. The discharge leaves the compressor and feeds the indoor coil; the suction returns from the outdoor one.Throw the control to COOL and the spool slides across: the same discharge feeds the outdoor coil instead, and the suction comes back from indoors.
Schematic — not measured data
A furnace that’s too big is still the wrong furnace.
Sizing a new furnace off the one already in the basement is how a house ends up with equipment that satisfies the thermostat in a few minutes, shuts off, and starts again. We work the load out for the house — floor area, ceiling height, insulation, glazing, which way the long wall faces, the winter design temperature — and then we tell you what that number is, including when it is smaller than the one you came in expecting.
These are example figures. They describe an imaginary 1,850 sq ft house, not a customer and not a job we have done, and they are not a quote. Every estimate we give is free, given in your own home, and worked out for that house.
The man who quotes it is the man who installs it.
The estimator who walks your house and writes the number is the same man who comes back on the day with the tools. Our customers say that is why they trusted the quote.
In our customers’
own words.
Quoted exactly as they were written, spelling, spacing and all. Google shows only how long ago a review was left, so those carry no date here; the Yelp dates are exact.
I got a call from Mountain Valley Heating a couple of weeks later to let me know the furnace that was installed didn't qualify for a Puget Sound Energy rebate (as they had told me it would). But they sent me a check for the rebate anyway to make it right.
They didn't try to up-sell us but recommended smaller furnace sizing different from other bids (I think we had five others) --- the correct sizing!
Jim came out to do the quote and was responsive to my preferences and provided various quotes to help me assess the type of furnace I wanted and whether I wanted to add A/C. Jim was also the installer, which gave me a lot more confidence in the quote and related work.
When it was time to replace our Lennox system, I researched our options as thoroughly as I could and compared six vendors, who visited our house and gave their recommendations and estimates. When it was time to decide, Mountain Valley was the clear choice: Jim was professional, experienced, friendly and patient, giving detailed answers and made sure I was satisfied with each one. It was easy to reach the office by email and phone to get answers from Shar and Anne to questions that came up afterwards. The American Standard furnace and heat pump were good quality for the price and when it came time for the installation, it went smoothly and on schedule.
Mountain Valley Heating & A/C put in a new furnace. Every step of the way they were able to answer all my questions. The job was put in front of another small job due to us being out of heat in February. Very thoughtful!! The install was done and looks great. The inspector who bought it off even commented that it was a really good install. Will use and recommend them again.
Mountain Valley Heating installed 3 ductless mini-split head units with a 30K BTU outdoor unit. Being a log home with unusual construction, the install was complicated. James came up with creative ideas on how to route the lines for a clean install. Their quote was not the lowest, but it was competitive.
I spoke with Ann who was super nice and very helpful and experienced. I gave her a some information and troubleshooting steps I'd already tried. She setup a diagnostic appointment and later that same day called me back with some additional troubleshooting information and suggestions. Who does that? Small businesses that care, that's who!

The part you can
still see afterwards.
We keep the line-set runs straight and tight to the wall. It is the part of an install that stays visible after we've gone, so it is worth getting square.
